Chapter 18. Toolbars, Tricks, and Interactive Design

Chapter 18. Toolbars, Tricks, and Interactive Design

As the Web grows, so does the variety of ways to accomplish any given site-design task. The days of simple HTML and GIF files are long gone. Despite the additional complications for designers, this is actually a good thing. By using gadgets such as pop-up layers and various kinds of responsive rollovers, Web designers can create sites that are more interactive and provide a significantly better user experience.

In this chapter, we look at a number of ways Dreamweaver lets you take advantage of the more advanced interactive elements available to today’s designers. We look at Flash Text and Flash buttons, which let you take advantage of the Macromedia Flash engine, without having to learn the Flash application itself. We take a quick look at JavaScript image rollovers, which you can use without knowing any JavaScript. We’ll dip our toes into Macromedia Fireworks to look at one way to speed the creation of navigation bars for use on your pages in Dreamweaver. We’ll show you how to hide page controls in a layer that pops up when the user mouses over or clicks a button. We’ll also look at some examples of how to use interactive elements (forms and navigation bars, in particular) with frames-based pages.
