Chapter 10. Server Behaviors > Adding a Server Behavior to a Page

Adding a Server Behavior to a Page

What follows is a review, if you’ve used any built-in server behaviors. These are generic instructions for adding a server behavior; see the previous section if you want to know in which chapter a specific, built-in server behavior is covered. When you create your own server behaviors in Dreamweaver, you’ll actually add them to individual pages or templates in the same way you add any other, as follows.

To add a server behavior to a page:

1.
Create a new dynamic page.

2.
Add a recordset to the page (for more information on how to do this, see the Bindings Panel section of Chapter 2).

3.
In the Server Behaviors panel, click the + (plus) button.

From the menu that appears (Figure 10.2), select the server behavior you want to add to the page.

Figure 10.2. The menu under the + (plus) button in the Server Behaviors panel lists all the server behaviors available on your current platform.

The dialog box for the server behavior you selected will appear (Figure 10.3).

Figure 10.3. Each server behavior has its own dialog box. This one is especially complicated.

4.
Fill out the dialog box appropriately.

5.
Click OK to close the dialog box.
