Chapter 7. Displaying Query Results > Using Dynamic Tables to Format Results

Using Dynamic Tables to Format Results

If you want to reuse the repeating region idea across an entire table, the easiest way to do so is to use a repeating table. If you like the idea of using a table row as a repeating region and plan to do it often, Dreamweaver MX provides an Application object to automate the process.

To insert a repeating region using the Dynamic Table object:

1.
On the Application tab of the Insert toolbar, click on the Dynamic Table button (Figure 7.7).

Figure 7.7. Click the Dynamic Table button on the Applications tab of the Insert toolbar.

The Dynamic Table dialog box will appear (Figure 7.8).

Figure 7.8. In the Dynamic Table dialog box, specify the recordset and number of records you want to display per page.

2.
Select the recordset you want to use from the recordset drop-down menu, and click on OK.

The table will appear on the page (Figure 7.9), complete with the Repeat Region behavior already applied.

Figure 7.9. The Dynamic Table button creates the table, inserts the Dynamic Text objects, and applies the Repeat Region behavior. Until you preview the page or use Live Data view, these placeholders will appear, showing which records from the set will be displayed in these columns.
