Chapter 19. Customizing Dreamweaver

Chapter 19. Customizing Dreamweaver

Dreamweaver is an extremely customizable program. In fact, it’s very possible to render the program completely unrecognizable. You can change the toolbars, the menus, the floating panels—pretty much everything but the Macromedia copyright notice.

The key to customizing Dreamweaver is to have a solid understanding of JavaScript and XML. This is because a vast majority of Dreamweaver is written in JavaScript. But although that can have something of a negative effect on the program’s performance and stability, it also means that if you know JavaScript, you can customize the program to fit perfectly with the way you work. (Just like Web pages have to wait for all their concomitant parts to load, so does Dreamweaver, which can make for occasional sluggishness and the occasional crash when you try to run conflicting scripts—that is, use conflicting features—at the same time.)
