Creating and Complying with XHTML

XHTML is the eXtensible HyperText Markup Language. It’s HTML 4.0 re-imagined as an XML application. XHTML uses standard HTML tags, with a few syntax differences.

Developers envision XHTML taking the place of HTML in the not-so-distant future. XHTML is based on both HTML and XML. XHTML differs from HTML in that it is extensible, like XML (which means you can add custom tags for Web applications), and that its syntax is stricter.
