Your Member Database

To accomplish the goals we’ve outlined so far—providing context, showcasing your members, and building trust—you’ll need to set up and maintain a member database. This is where you’ll store the data that you collect and track for each of your members—the system profile described earlier (see sidebar).

What goes into your system profiles? For starters, everything that you ask your members to tell you about themselves, such as their real names, contact information, gender, birth date, and interests (if they choose to share them). This kind of data is basically static, although it may need to be updated when someone moves, gets married, or acquires a new hobby.
