Image Formats

Most Web browsers display two image formats: CompuServe GIF (known as simply GIF) and JPEG (also called JPG). Dreamweaver also supports a relatively new image format called PNG. (PNG has been around for over five years, but regardless of its wonderful properties, most people continue to use GIFs for graphics.)

If you've got digitized images that you want to use in your pages, but they're in a format other than GIF, JPEG, or PNG, you need to use an image-editing program to convert them to the proper format before you can put them on your page. (Generally, you can do this by selecting File > Save As or File > Export from the image editor's menu bar.)
