Lesson 9. Using Templates > Controlling Optional Content

Controlling Optional Content

In the profile template, you defined the table for a list of other lighthouses with 1st Order Fresnel lens as an optional region that would be hidden by default on pages based on that template. When you create and edit new pages using a template, you can show or hide any optional content areas that were created in the original template. In this exercise, you will prepare to develop the optional content for the Point Reyes Lighthouse profile by displaying the region.

1.
In the pt_reyes.html document, choose Modify > Template Properties.

The Template Properties dialog box opens.

2.
Select OptionalRegion1 from the list of names.

Once you've selected the region, options become available beneath the list boxes.

3.
Check the Show OptionalRegion1 check box.

The value listed for OptionalRegion1 in the list of values changes from false (hidden) to true (shown).

4.
Click OK to close the Template Properties dialog box.

You return to your document, and the table you created in the optional region on the profile template is now displayed in the pt_reyes.html document. Keep this file open for the next exercise.
