Lesson 9. Using Templates > Removing Editable Regions

Removing Editable Regions

You have designated certain areas of the template as “editable.” You can also lock them again. In locked areas, elements cannot be changed directly on a page that has been created from the template. Any elements located in locked areas must be edited on the original template file itself.

1.
In profile.dwt, click the tab for the region copyright in the document window in order to select it.

The Tag Selector at the bottom of the document window displays the template markup <mmtemplate:editable>.

NOTE

If profile.dwt is not open, double-click the profile template in the Templates category of the Assets panel. You can use the Assets panel to move, rename, and delete template files. Use caution when deleting template files, since they cannot be recreated as easily as library items.

2.
Choose Modify > Templates > Remove Template Markup.

The outline designating the copyright cell as editable disappears and that portion of the template is now locked. Now it cannot be changed in files that are based on this template.
