Lesson 13. Using Style Sheets > Converting Internal Styles to External Styles

Converting Internal Styles to External Styles

If you have a document with internal styles and you decide you want to use those styles in other pages, you can easily export those styles to an external style sheet.

1.
In the life.html document, choose File > Export > CSS Styles…

The Export Styles As CSS File dialog box opens.

2.
Name your style sheet lifestyle.css and click Save.

An external style sheet with just the highlight style is created from the internal styles in the current document.

If you want to use this external style sheet in your current document, first remove all internal styles, and then click the Attach Style Sheet icon at the bottom of the CSS Styles panel to link to the external file you just created.

NOTE

While working in Dreamweaver, you can hide the effects of a style sheet. To hide the effects of a particular style sheet choose Design Time Style Sheets from the context menu in the upper right corner of the CSS Styles panel. Click the plus sign (+) button to add a style sheet to the Show Only at Design Time text field. Any Style Sheets added to this text field will be displayed in Dreamweaver. Click the plus sign (+) button to add a style sheet to the Hide at Design Time text field. Any style sheets added to this text field will not be displayed while you work in Dreamweaver. This will not affect the display in any browser—documents will still use all style sheets they are linked to when viewed in the browser.
