Lesson 6. Managing Your Site > Using the Site Window

Using the Site Window

The Site window displays the file and folder structure of your site. You can use the Site window to add, delete, rename, and move files and folders. By doing all of your file maintenance within the Site window, you ensure that the paths which direct Dreamweaver and the browser to links, images, and other elements will stay correct. These paths will remain correct because Dreamweaver will be able to track your changes and update your files based on those changes. Conversely, if you make file or folder changes in the Finder (Macintosh), in My Computer (Windows) or in Windows Explorer File Manager (Windows), Dreamweaver doesn't recognize the changes and cannot keep the paths correct.

Macintosh users should choose Site > Open Site to open the Site window. Select your site, Lights of the Coast, in the list. Windows users should open the Files panel group, select the Site tab, verify that the site Lights of the Coast is selected in the left drop-down menu and click the Expand button on the Site toolbar.
