Lesson 17. Extending Dreamweaver > Creating a Simple Object

Creating a Simple Object

The Insert bar is divided into tabs, each of which corresponds to a folder within the Dreamweaver Program Folder. Use the Finder (Macintosh), My Computer (Windows) or Windows Explorer (Windows), to locate the Macromedia > Dreamweaver MX >, Configuration > Objects folder. If you look in the Common folder that is in the Objects folder, you'll see an HTML file and a GIF image file for each of the objects in the Common tab. For example, an image.htm file and an image.gif file correspond to the Image object. Some objects also have a JavaScript file ending with the .js extension. Earlier in this lesson, you installed the fiXMovie extension, which placed the fiXMovie object into a new tab called Special on the Insert bar.

The Insert bar is an easy way to insert HTML elements that you use regularly into your pages. All the objects included in the Insert bar can be modified to suit your needs. Using only some basic HTML, you can create an object for use in all your documents.
