Cell Formatting

You can change several options for each cell. You can add background colors to each cell or to the entire table.

You can also control the alignment of objects within each cell of a table horizontally and vertically. The default HTML setting for horizontal alignment in a cell is left. The default HTML setting for vertical alignment in a cell is center. When you draw a cell in layout view, Dreamweaver changes the vertical alignment to top, but you can change that option easily.

1.
In the foghorns.html document, select the cell in which you added the caption for the fogsignal.jpg image. Type the code #FFCC99 into the Bg color text field in the Property inspector. Set the background of the cell for the second caption to the same color.

The color of the cell changes to the color you selected. Be sure to select the cell so you can see the selection handles, as opposed to placing the insertion point inside the cell.

NOTE

To change the background color of the entire table, select the table by clicking the green table border or any of the gray areas of the table. Click the Bg color box and choose a color for the table.

2.
Choose Center from the Horz drop-down menu in the Property inspector for the cells of both captions.

This step changes the alignment of the text in the cell to center.

3.
Change the Vert setting to Middle for the cells of both captions.

This step centers the text vertically in the cell.
