Lesson 1. Dreamweaver MX Basics > Centering and Indenting Text

Centering and Indenting Text

The alignment options available to you are default (no alignment), Align Left, Align Center, Align Right, and Justify. Default is the same as left.

1.
In introduction.html, position the insertion point in the heading “Introduction to Lights of the Coast.” Click the Align Center button in the Property inspector.

The heading is centered. Since you inserted a line break between “Lights of the Coast:” and “Introduction,” both lines of text are now centered. Text that is separated by line breaks is still a part of the same paragraph block, so any paragraph formatting that you apply, such as headings or alignments, will affect everything contained within the paragraph.

NOTE

If you use two line breaks, you can simulate the appearance of a new paragraph. However, since you are not actually creating a new paragraph, you may have difficulty when you try to apply formatting styles to text that has two line breaks instead of a single paragraph return.

In addition to aligning text, you can also indent paragraph blocks. To do this, you will want to use the Text Indent and Text Outdent buttons on the Property inspector.

2.
Select the first body paragraph of introduction.html; then click Text Indent in the Property inspector.
