Lesson 9. Setting Text Dynamically > An Interactive Map of Dante's Inferno

An Interactive Map of Dante's Inferno

This lesson and the following two lessons are more closely related than previous lessons have been, so rather than beginning with a look at what you'll build in this lesson alone, you'll take a look at the finished project after all three lessons. The completed project includes two SWF files, upper.swf and lower.swf, each one representing one half of Dante's Inferno. They are connected to each other via loadMovie(), though it's a different variation than the one you used in Lesson 8. In this lesson, you will build most of upper.fla. In Lesson 10, which focuses on creating drag-and-drop interactivity, you will build most of lower.fla. In Lesson 11, you will add the final touches to each, connect them, and start learning how to optimize scripts.

As you work through the steps in this first task, take your time and explore the movie. As you explore, be sure that you notice how upper.swf functions, since that is what you will be building in this lesson.
