Preventing Users from Accessing Pages Without First Logging In

You have built a gateway into your site at this point, but it is as if the site doesn't have any walls that would require the gateway. In this step, you will build those walls, metaphorically speaking. To do so, you will use the Restrict Access to Page server behavior. This behavior checks to see whether the user has a valid session variable active in her or his username. If so, access to the page is granted. If not, the user is sent to notloggedin.cfm.

Let's take a moment to look at the role of session variables. Session variables are used to connect the progress of a single user across a number of pages as a single session. Remember, HTTP is a stateless protocol—the server forgets who you are or that you were ever there the second it sends you a page. This forgetfulness creates problems when a series of pages need to be browsed together to create a single experience.
