Lesson 6. Interactive Simulations > Introducing the Tutorial

Introducing the Tutorial

To simulate the task of creating a DSN, you will need to create hotspot, text entry, and tab order interactions. These are layered invisibly over screenshots of the various dialog boxes. As with the simulated video, there are two major steps to creating the simulation: compellingly laying out the sequence of screenshots, and adding interactive elements on top that ultimately appear as if they are a part of the screenshots beneath.

One problem that you will have is that Flash doesn't have a hotspot tool like the ones in Macromedia Fireworks or Macromedia Dreamweaver. To work around this, you will create an invisible button. You can apply ActionScript and sounds to invisible buttons just as you do to regular buttons. The only difference is that invisible buttons have no visual content (such as rectangles or text labels) in their Up, Over, or Down frames.
