Lesson 17. Flash, ColdFusion, and the Database > Building the ColdFusion Layer

Building the ColdFusion Layer

If you've ever hooked up a stereo or TV system with a VCR, video game system, DVD player, and/or home theater, then you have experience linking different components with a wire. The TV OUT hookup on the back of the VCR goes to the VCR IN hookup on the back of the TV. While there is only one wire, it needs to be hooked up to two ends, one of which must be output, and one of which must be input.

While sending data is more abstract than a home theater setup, the same principle applies. To send data from one place to another, it is output from one place and input into another. On the survey, you output data from the first page and input it into the second page. The wiring was accomplished using the POST method. When you sent the username into Flash, it was output from the host page (via a query string attached to the URL in the <object> and <embed> tags). It was input into Flash's main timeline automatically.
