Lesson 10. Drag-and-Drop Interactions > Resetting Drag-and-Drop Directions Usin...

Resetting Drag-and-Drop Directions Using Global Variables

This interaction is getting close to completion. We just need to address a usability issue with the file. At this point, if you drag Chiron to the target area, the dragtext field responds with the “Correct!…” text. After that, if you click one of the circle labels, the info box is filled with the appropriate information. The problem is that the dragtext field still says “Correct!…” even though the user has moved on to something else. This might create the impression that clicking one of the labels is somehow correct, which could be confusing.

The solution to this, which you saw at the beginning of the lesson when you previewed the lower.swf file, is to have the original text, “Drag a monster to its designated post,” restored in the dragtext field whenever a user clicks a label. That way, it is clear that clicking a label isn't eliciting new feedback in the dragtext field. As the user's focus shifts from the drag and drop to the circle labels, the dragtext field reverts to its original state.
