Lesson 13. Connecting to Data Sources > Using the Insert Record Behavior

Using the Insert Record Behavior

The Insert Record behavior, which you are about to use, belongs to a class of Dreamweaver behaviors called server behaviors. As you probably remember from the lessons at the beginning of this book when you used behaviors such as Show-Hide Layers and Drag Layer, behaviors are ready-made scripts that Macromedia ships with Dreamweaver MX. When you want to use one, figure out what to attach it to (in those lessons, you attached behaviors to the <body> tag and to dummy hyperlinks), add the behavior, then complete a dialog, and Dreamweaver does the rest.

Server behaviors work the same way. The only thing that distinguishes them from regular Dreamweaver behaviors is that instead of resulting in scripts processed by the client's browser (on the client side), these scripts are ColdFusion or ASP scripts that are processed on the server. You'll use lots of server behaviors in the following lessons, so you'll get used to how they work in a hurry.
