Lesson 15. Building a Web Survey > Using Server-Side Form Validation

Using Server-Side Form Validation

In Lesson 13, you used client-side form validation—you added a JavaScript behavior using Dreamweaver's Validate Form behavior. In general, it is better to use client-side form validation rather than server-side form validation, because it makes the user's computer, rather than your server, do as much processing as possible and relieves the load on your server.

But this time, you have a problem. Dreamweaver's Validate Form behavior can validate only text fields, and your survey is full of radio buttons. Although you can download free form validation behaviors from the Dreamweaver Exchange (http://www.macromedia.com/exchange/) that include radio button form validation, I'll show you how to work with ColdFusion's native form validation, which is surprisingly easy to use.
