Maintaining State with Session Variables and Hidden Fields

To understand the solution that you'll use in this lesson, you need to first understand the exact nature of the problem.

Users need to fill out a survey, and then you need to write the survey data to a database. The data is collected over two pages. In addition to the two pages of data that you want to write to the database, you also want to write the user's username, which, as you'll recall, is her or his email address. The problem is that the username is entered on the original login page and the user has gone through at least three pages since logging in. When you send data from one page to another using a URL request, it must be by a direct route: The user must go directly to the next page. In this scenario, you're really trying to retrieve data from a page that is not the immediately previous page.
