Accessibility in Flash MX

The Flash Player 6, when deployed from Internet Explorer on Windows operating systems, has the ability to expose itself to screen readers. In practical terms, this means that you can now add descriptive text to certain Flash movie assets, much like you might add an alt attribute to an image in HTML. You can also add keyboard shortcuts to replicate the functionality of clicking on an object (such as a button). The Flash movie assets that can be made available to screen readers are as follows:

  • Text

  • Input text fields

  • Buttons

  • Movie clips

  • Entire movies
