Lesson 3. Designing Web Pages > Review questions

Review questions

1:After you create a new Web site in GoLive, what folder and files appear in the Files tab of the site window?
A1: The Files tab displays the contents of the site's root folder, which contains a blank home page called index.html.
2:Name two benefits of using a component.
A2: A component lets you store frequently used page content, such as a navigation bar. You can quickly add the component to multiple pages in a site. To edit a component, you only need to edit a single file (its source file) to have GoLive automatically update each page that contains it.
3:When do you use a layout grid to design a page?
A3: You use a layout grid to create table-based designs in your pages. Instead of setting up multiple table cells, you can add a single layout grid to a page and position objects on the grid with 1-pixel accuracy.
4:Name two ways that you can specify an image for an image placeholder on a page.
A4: To specify an image for an image placeholder, do one of the following:
  • Drag from the Point and Shoot button in the Image Inspector to an image file in the site window.

  • Hold down Alt (Windows) or Command (Mac OS), and drag from the image placeholder to an image file in the site window.

  • Drag an image file from the site window to the image placeholder.

5:Name a way in which you can add text to a table.
A5: To add text to a table, you can type directly in a table cell, copy and paste text from GoLive or another application, and import text from a text-only file created in a word-processing or spreadsheet application, for example.
6:What is a custom color palette, and how do you add a color to a custom color palette?
A6: You can collect and organize colors for a site in the Colors tab of the site window. The colors appear in both the Colors tab and the Site Color list in the Color palette, either of which you can use as a custom color palette. To add a color to a custom color palette, drag the Color icon from the Site set in the Objects palette to the Colors tab of the site window. Select a color in the Color palette, and then drag the color from the preview pane to the untitled color in the Colors tab. Finally, rename the color according to its use in the site.
7:Can you extract color from an image that you've added to a page? If so, how?
A7: Yes, you can extract color from an image that you've added to a page. To do so, move the pointer to any color swatch in the Color palette, so that the pointer turns into an eyedropper. Drag the eyedropper from the Color palette to the image whose color you want to copy, and release the mouse. The extracted color appears in the preview pane of the Color palette.
8:When do you use floating boxes to design a page?
A8: You use floating boxes to divide a page into rectangles that can be formatted and positioned individually. You can also overlap, hide and show, and animate them on the page.
