Chapter 7. Managing Version Control > Managing File Versioning

Managing File Versioning

When your administrator installed Sitespring, he or she probably enabled file versioning on a shared folder or folders. That means every time a file is modified or deleted, a backup copy is created. If versioning needs to be enabled, whoever does so must have administrator privileges. Also, the folders or drives must be shared by the Windows server where Sitespring is installed. You cannot enable versioning on your local folders or drives.

Merely being able to share the folder or drive within Windows doesn't mean you can enable Sitespring versioning. The shared folder or drive must reside on a volume formatted with the NTFS file system, not FAT or FAT32. Additionally, versioning cannot be enabled on folders or drives that contain the operating system, a system page file, or a hibernation file.
