What Web Teams Do

Many tasks go into building a Web site or Web project, from creating attention-getting graphics to developing complex e-commerce applications. For this reason, Web teams often involve many people with a variety of skills. First, with even a moderately sized site, the sheer volume of work often requires a number of people just to get the site built in a reasonable amount of time. Second, it's rare to find one person whose skills cross all the disciplines needed to create a good site. When building a house, you wouldn't expect a painter to install the plumbing. By the same token, you wouldn't expect a programmer to come up with award-winning graphics. Web teams can range in size from a few individual contractors (Figure 1.1) all the way up to dozens or hundreds of people at some of the larger Web design houses (Figure 1.2).
