Chapter 4. Folders and Files

Chapter 4. Folders and Files

The end result of any Web project is a folder or series of folders that contains any number of files. Along the way, a file may go through many permutations. Keeping track of all the files can quickly overwhelm even a seasoned Web professional. Sitespring helps create order out of the mayhem by associating the files and folders on the production server with the projects and tasks in Sitespring. Thus any team member can easily find the latest version of a file, and project managers can easily create snapshots of entire folders related to a project. Sitespring's automatic versioning feature saves copies of interim file versions, allowing you to revert to them if needed.

As you'll learn in this chapter, folders are associated with projects, and files are associated with tasks. Chapter 3 explained how to add a folder to a project. This chapter tells you how to open a folder linked to a project, and how to remove folders from a project. This chapter also explains how to manage files—how to view and edit them; revert to an earlier version; publish them to or remove them from a project site; and move, add, or delete them. Finally, you'll learn what Sitespring Helper is and how to install and configure it.
