Chapter 7. Inserting and Playing Media > Using Navigation Bars

Using Navigation Bars

If you want to create a navigation bar (also called navbar or button bar) to guide people through your site, Dreamweaver can simplify the process. Otherwise, you'd have to write a complex rollover for each button in the navigation bar. Using Dreamweaver, you just fill in the blanks.

A button can have as many as four looks in a Dreamweaver navigation bar: Up, or initial; Over, or "lit up" (when the user mouses over the button); Down, or "pushed in" (when the user clicks on the button); and Over While Down (when the user mouses over the button while it's "pushed in"). You need have only one set of images to create a navigation bar, but you must create a separate image file for each state of each button on the bar. Figures 7.7 and 7.8 show the four sets of images that will be used as buttons in the four different states. Figure 7.9 shows the buttons in action.
