Chapter 18. Automating Dreamweaver > Creating Pages Based on a Template

Creating Pages Based on a Template

Once you've got your template set up, you can create pages based on that template.

To create a template page:

1.
From the Document window menu bar, select File > New From Template. The Select Template dialog box will appear (Figure 18.38).

Figure 18.38. Select the template on which you want to base your page from the Select Template dialog box. You can also change sites by selecting a site from the drop-down menu.

2.
Select the name of the template on which you want to base your page.

3.
Click Select. The Select Template dialog box will close, and a new document window will appear (Figure 18.39), including:

Figure 18.39. A blank page based on the main.dwt template. The locked regions are marked in yellow, and the rest of the text is editable.

  • The formatting of your template, along with any HTML elements or page properties

  • The editable regions of your template, marked in blue boxes with the name of each region on its tab (Figure 18.40).

Figure 18.40. The editable regions of your template are marked in blue boxes with the name of each region on its tab.

  • Locked regions are not marked but are untouchable. On Windows, this is indicated by a "Don't" sign (Figure 18.41).

Figure 18.41. Can't touch this! Non-editable regions are locked and the cursor tells you so.
