Chapter 18. Automating Dreamweaver > Setting Editable Regions

Setting Editable Regions

Everything you place on a template will be locked—that is, you or your staff will not be able to edit that part of the page—unless you mark it as a named editable region.

To create a new editable region:

1.
Click to place the insertion point where you want the new editable region to appear.

2.
From the Document window menu bar, select Modify > Templates > New Editable Region. The New Editable Region dialog box will appear (Figure 18.35).

Figure 18.35. Type the name of the new region in the Name text box.

3.
Type a name for the editable region in the text box. Avoid funky characters, and don't use quotation marks or <angle brackets>.

4.
Click on OK to close the New Editable Region dialog box and return to the Document window. The name of the editable region will appear highlighted in the Document window (Figure 18.36) in a little box with the name of the editable region on top. You can edit this text, if you like.

Figure 18.36. The text typed as the name of the new editable region will appear in the Document window at the insertion point, and its name will appear inside {curly brackets}. The text will also appear inside a box with a tab marking the name of the region.
