Lesson 1. Learning the Basics > Specifying a Background Color

Specifying a Background Color

In Dreamweaver, you can change the background color of a page easily by using a panel of colors known as the Web-safe color palette. You access that panel from the Page Properties dialog box to change the background color for surf_hawaii.html in this exercise.

1.
Choose Modify > Page Properties.

The Page Properties dialog box appears.

2.
Click the color box next to the Background text box. In the color picker, move the cursor over a color swatch.

A color picker opens. Notice that when the panel opens, the cursor changes to an eyedropper.

The swatch's hexadecimal equivalent is shown at the top of the color picker.

NOTE

You can also move the eyedropper over the document window and choose a color from items there such as text and images.

3.
Click a pale blue color to select it, or type CCFFFF in the Background text box.

You do not need to include the number sign (#) before the hex color code.

4.
Click Apply to view the color change in your document.

Choosing Apply allows you to view your changes without closing the Page Properties dialog box.
