Lesson 1. Learning the Basics > Adding Special Characters

Adding Special Characters

When you work in Dreamweaver, you sometimes need characters and other information that you cannot access directly from the keyboard. These special characters have specific HTML codes or alternative keyboard commands that may be difficult to remember.

1.
Click the arrow at the top of the Objects panel and choose Characters from the drop-down menu.

The Character Objects panel appears. This panel contains the most commonly used special characters.

2.
From the Character Objects panel, drag the copyright character to the bottom of the page. To the right of the copyright character, type 2000, Compass Adventure Travel.

TIP

You can also click to place the insertion point where you'd like the copyright symbol to appear in the document—in this case, at the bottom of the page. Then click the copyright symbol, and it will be placed at the insertion point.

The Character Objects panel doesn't provide an all-encompassing list. If the character you want to use isn't available in this panel, you can still select it by choosing the Insert Other Characters icon or Insert > Special Characters > Other. The following steps tell you how.

3.
Click the Insert Other Characters icon or choose Insert > Special Characters > Other.

The Insert Other Character dialog box opens.

4.
Click the character you want to use, and then click OK.

The character appears on the page.
