Lesson 15. Extending Dreamweaver > Changing the Objects Panel

Changing the Objects Panel

The Objects panel is divided into eight panels. There are seven default panels: Characters, Common, Forms, Frames, Head, Invisibles, and Special. Each panel corresponds to a folder within the Configuration/Objects folder in the Dreamweaver application folder. If you look in the Common folder, you'll see an HTML file and a GIF image file for each of the objects in the Common panel. For example, an image.htm file and an image.gif file correspond to the Insert Image object. Some objects also have a JavaScript file ending with the .js extension. Earlier in this lesson, you installed the calendar extension, which placed the Insert Calendar object into a new panel called Goodies on the Objects panel.

The Objects panel is an easy way to insert HTML elements in your page. All the objects included in the Objects panel can be modified to suit your needs. Using only some basic HTML, you can create an object for use in all your documents.
