Lesson 4. Elements of Page Design > Importing Data from Spreadsheets

Importing Data from Spreadsheets

If you have text in a spreadsheet or even in a Microsoft Word table, inserting it into Dreamweaver is easy. You need to save or export the text from Microsoft Word as a tab- or comma-delimited file in order to make it compatible with Dreamweaver. You can also use tab-or comma-delimited files that have been exported from other programs such as Microsoft Excel. In this exercise, the text file has already been exported for you.

1.
In the biking_table.htm document, choose Insert > Tabular Data or click Tabular Data in the Objects panel.

The Insert Tabular Data dialog box opens.

2.
Click Browse and choose bikingtable.txt in the Lesson_04_Tables/Text folder. Then choose Tab from the Delimiter menu. For Table Width, choose Set, type 500 in the text box, and choose Pixels from the drop-down menu. Leave both Cell Padding and Cell Spacing blank. Format Top Row should be set to (No Formatting) by default, and Border should be 1.

The data is imported, and a table is built for you with the settings you chose.
