Lesson 5. Adding User Interactivity > Checking the Browser

Checking the Browser

Not all browsers support dynamic HTML (DHTML), which defines layers and animations. With the Check Browser action, you can detect users' browsers and redirect users to another page if your page contains features that won't display correctly in their browsers. If, for example, your page contains layers (covered in Lesson 10) or animations (covered in Lesson 14), you could create a static page without the layers or animations and then redirect users with 4.0 browsers to the animation page. Users with older browsers or with JavaScript turned off would remain on the static page.

This exercise uses a page built with tables and a similar page built with layers. You will add a Check Browser behavior and redirect the users with 4.0 browsers to the page that uses layers.
