Lesson 5. Adding User Interactivity > Creating a Status-Bar Message

Creating a Status-Bar Message

A status-bar message can give users extra information about where links will lead them. This message, which appears in the status bar at the bottom of the browser window, replaces the default display of the URL or path to the linked page.

1.
In the disjointed.htm document, select the Biking button. Click the plus-sign (+) button in the Behaviors panel and choose Set Text > Set Text of Status Bar from the Actions drop-down menu.

The Set Text of Status Bar dialog box opens, displaying a text box in which you can type your message.

2.
Type Biking Adventures and click OK.

TIP

If you use status-bar messages, a concise description of the linked material will help your users navigate your pages.

3.
Save the file and test it in the browser.

When you move your pointer over the Biking button, you will see the message you created displayed in the status bar at the bottom of the browser window.

You can close the file. In the next exercise, you will use behaviors to check what browser your user has.
