Part III: Special Topics > Lingo and Lists

Chapter 16. Lingo and Lists

Understanding lists

Working with lists

Points to remember

As your boss and your boss's boss will probably tell you, effective organization is the key to getting things done. This rule really does apply to programming. As your scripting grows more complex, you'll feel an ever more acute need to carry out your data wrangling in an orderly, methodical fashion.

Fortunately, Lingo allows you to keep lists: dynamic, changing, and ultimately flexible lists of elements on the Stage and in memory—and these lists are among the most powerful tools you'll encounter. In this chapter, we'll look at the creation, care, and feeding of both linear and property lists in the scripting environment. Then we'll discuss symbols and some specialized Lingo for getting the most from your lists.
