Going beyond the basics requires some mastery of more sophisticated programming concepts, but primarily it's a matter of expanding your vocabulary. In the following pages, I'll try to spur just such an expansion by touching on at least some of the more intriguing varieties of Lingo, sometimes by giving examples, and sometimes by just mentioning them in passing. You'll find more details in Appendix C: A Lingo Lexicon.
Note
Most appendices are dry, boring stuff designed for only occasional reference, but I'd suggest treating Appendix C as required reading. In it you'll find detailed definitions of the full spectrum of Lingo, complete with sample scripts and cross-references. When faced with a programming task that just seems too onerous, try roaming through the Lexicon. You just might discover a bit of Lingo that does the job admirably.
