Chapter 3. Making It Multimedia > Rotating Cast members

Rotating Cast members

Now that we have an eight ball, let's see if we can make it roll across the Stage. We've moved sprites across the Stage before and even made them shrink and fade. But the eight ball needs to look like it's actually turning as it rolls. Prior to Director 7, a rotating animation was accomplished through a series of images, so you needed to provide a number of separate Cast members: one for each rotated position. Now, using Director's sprite rotation, all you need is a single Cast member and auto-tweening to rotate the sprite for you. A similar capability added with Director 7 was the ability to skew sprites. Skewing and auto-tweening are especially handy for adding compression and perspective effects.

  1. Close the Paint window. Then drag the eight ball from the Cast to frame 1 in the Score.

  2. Extend the sprite through frame 10.
