Part I: Director Basics > Deeper into Graphics

Chapter 6. Deeper into Graphics

Paint versus vectors

Paint window tools

The alpha channel

Cast-level graphic operations

The power of palettes

Vector shape tools

Points to remember

Let's take a deeper look at what's on the surface. In this chapter, we'll be concerned solely with appearances—how you can create and modify the visual elements of your Director productions. You've already learned quite a bit about the possibilities of image manipulation and variation, but there's a lot more waiting to meet the eye.

We'll start by surveying the special effects available in the two main graphics windows: the bitmap-oriented Paint window and the vector-savvy Vector Shape window. Then it's on to tips for customizing your graphics tools, additional imaging options, and general graphics management issues. Finally, we'll look at techniques for building and deploying palettes, those collections of color that can produce dazzling (and disorienting) differences in display.
