Part II: Digging Deeper > Working with Multiple Movies and Casts

Chapter 13. Working with Multiple Movies and Casts

Why use more than one movie?

Calling other movies

File location with Lingo

MIAW management basics

Changing window coordinates

Inter-window communication

Managing multiple Casts

Points to remember

You can create amazing multimedia projects working with a single movie and using only a single Cast for all your movie's elements. If you never branch out into multiple movies and Casts, however, you'll miss out on a whole territory of Director development that extends your ability to organize projects and allows you to expand your interactivity by displaying more than one movie at a time. In this chapter, you'll learn how to use Director in both of these ways.

To start, we'll use simple linkages—launching one movie from another and even returning to the original movie again. Then we'll look into Movies in a Window (MIAWs), in which one movie can have multiple movies open in subwindows, all running at the same time (and even communicating with each other). Finally, we'll see how media resources can be shared or swapped using multiple internal and external Cast files.
