Extending user feedback and control

The exercises in the remainder of this chapter all have the same goal: to explore the ways in which your production can interact with the end user. By now, you should be confident about the basics of clickable buttons and nonlinear navigations, so it's time to tackle new interface tools.

Middle-ground interactivity

Let's start by experimenting with a level of feedback and control that's somewhere in the middle ground between active and passive. Usually, a click of the mouse represents a decision on the part of the user—but before making that decision, people often idly move the mouse around the screen. By interpreting those movements, you can write scripts that subtly reinforce the principles of the interface.
