Building the prototype

At last! It's time to stop planning and start building. Actually, were this a professional production, at this point you might want to divide the work into two streams: design (honing the aesthetics of the screens and scenes) and prototyping (programming the structure without concern for content). Since the former is a matter of personal taste, we'll focus on the latter for now.

In conventional manufacturing, the prototype is a preliminary version of the eventual product, to be discarded when the real thing is finalized. But with Director, you can build a prototype and then refine and augment it until it becomes the final product. The original work becomes the armature on which all else rests—which illustrates why sound planning is important before laying the foundation.
