The Property Inspector

Note

The Property Inspector knows most everything about all items in your movie.

Once created, every item in Director has associated with it a number of properties (various aspects of its manifestation and behavior). This is true for Cast members and objects on the Stage, as well as for movies themselves. A bitmap image on the Stage, for example, has properties that define the images location on the stage. The Cast member containing the bitmap image has properties specifying the color depth (8-bit, for example) and the image compression. Prior to Director 8, there were a myriad of ways to find out an item's properties, each with a distinct dialog box. Now, all these dialog boxes have been rolled into a single information window: the Property Inspector (commonly referred to as the PI). The Property Inspector is context sensitive—while the window is displayed, clicking on an object switches the display to provide information about the clicked object.
