Beginning our tour

This chapter is essentially a tour of a blank canvas: the one that's created whenever you open a brand-new Director file. Although Director has scads of windows, you'll be doing the bulk of your work with these four: the Score, the Stage, the Control Panel, and a Cast. But before you can start, you'll need to start Director.

Note

If you're the type who can't see a canvas without wanting to paint on it, you may find yourself growing restless after a few pages. If so, feel free to skip ahead to Chapter 2: The Elements of Animation, and refer back to this chapter when you feel the need. If you've worked with earlier versions of Director, this chapter is skimming material—so long as you're familiar with Director's multitudinous windows and dialog boxes and how they interrelate.
