Chapter 13. Working with Rich Media > Setting Up Plug-ins

Setting Up Plug-ins

You add multimedia content by dragging palette icons into GoLive documents and then configuring attributes that control the way the plug-in content appears on a Web page. Like a Web browser, GoLive can display media files once you have installed plug-in software in the GoLive Plug-In folder. Just drop the plug-in into the Plug-Ins folder, inside the Adobe GoLive 5 folder. You'll also need to install plug-ins before trying to configure media files with GoLive, since the plug-in gives GoLive information it needs about the file type you're using.

Adding media content

The GoLive Objects palette includes a generic plug-in icon and four icons for specific media types. You configure all plug-ins using the Plug-in Inspector. To set up items related to a specific plug-in, you work in the Inspector's fourth tab, which is named for the plug-in you're configuring. Otherwise, the Inspector for all plug-ins is the same, though there are a few tweaks associated with different formats. I'll show you how to add and configure a generic plug-in, then move into options for specific file formats.
