Links and Targets

When a site visitor clicks a link, the resulting Web page usually opens in the same browser window, replacing the previous page. In some cases, you might want to open a link in a new window or in a frame. Opening a new window for a link preserves access to the previous page, and opening a link in a frame allows you to link to a remote site without the user leaving your site. The link attribute that allows you to choose where a link should open is called a target.

There are four kinds of target attributes:
