Chapter 6. Working with Links

Chapter 6. Working with Links

Hyperlinks are as essential to the World Wide Web as phone numbers and e-mail are to telecommunication. Links between Web pages make it possible for people to jump instantly (surf) from place to place on the Internet.

Using links effectively is also an integral part of building a useful Web site. You use links to move visitors from page to page and to provide points of reference (in the form of navigation bars and tables of contents) for your site.

Adobe GoLive provides several ways to create links, and it supports the various kinds of links that are standard parts of HTML. In this chapter, I describe how to create text links. Chapters 5 ("Working with Images") and 13 ("Working with Rich Media") focus on linking to images and multimedia files. The process of creating these different kinds of links is quite similar, however.

In this chapter, I cover:

  • How links work

  • Creating links

  • Editing links

  • Named anchors

  • Using targets

  • Link warnings
