Chapter 5. Working with Images > Smart Objects and Save for Web

Smart Objects and Save for Web

I've described GoLive's useful image import features and the preferences you'll need to set to make them work. But beyond importing non-GIF image formats and creating Web-friendly versions of them on the fly, GoLive provides sophisticated linking capabilities between itself and image-building applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, and LiveMotion, all from Adobe. You can add these image types to a GoLive document and optimize them for the Web while maintaining a link between the Web-friendly version of the image and the original one. When you make changes to the original, they are reflected in the Web version.

The GoLive installer is smart enough to figure out whether you have Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or LiveMotion on your hard drive when you first install GoLive, and adds a corresponding icon for each of these applications to the Smart Objects palette. When you want to import an image, just choose the appropriate smart object or drag the image from the desktop into the Document window. Either way, Save for Web opens and displays options for creating a Web image from the imported file.
