Chapter 14. Building Sites > Creating Sites

Creating Sites

To begin a GoLive site, you first create the site structure and then add HTML and media files to it.

Site structure in GoLive

A GoLive site is a collection of files, but it's also a GoLive structure that gives you access to tools and views that make building a site easier. When you create or import a site, GoLive creates a site file and two folders: the site folder and the site data folder. The site file is your site's master control: it knows where every site object is and whether the links between them actually work or not. Inside the site folders are the files that make up the site; HTML, images, multimedia, scripts, and so on. The site data folder contains items that support the site—site designs, stationery files, and other items that you use in GoLive—but that you don't upload to a Web server.
